Tree Removal, Pruning, and Trimming Cost

Our minimum charge for tree service work is $300.

This applies to smaller tree service jobs because even minor work still requires travel, setup, safety checks, labour, fuel, insurance, equipment use, and professional service on site.

Tree removal, pruning, and trimming are quoted based on the actual work involved. Some jobs are simple and direct. Others require climbing, rigging, careful dismantling, or added protection for nearby structures and landscaping.

Pricing is based on the actual conditions and the labour, equipment, time, and disposal involved.

Final pricing may be affected by:

  • tree size
  • the amount of pruning, trimming, or removal required
  • ease of access to the work area
  • proximity to homes, garages, sheds, fences, decks, driveways, gardens, and landscaping
  • nearby utility lines and overhead obstacles
  • whether climbing, rigging, or technical lowering is required
  • cleanup and debris removal
  • loading and unloading time
  • distance to the dump site
  • dumping and disposal fees
  • equipment operating costs
  • truck and equipment refuelling
  • fuel costs for trucks and chainsaws
  • total labour time required for safe completion
  • whether the job is urgent or storm-related

For higher-risk jobs, pricing also reflects the additional care, skill, and time required to protect the property and complete the work safely.

The best way to receive accurate tree service pricing is through a site visit.

Stump Grinding Cost

Stump grinding is priced at $10 per inch, measured at the stump’s widest point.

There is a minimum stump grinding charge of $150.

This base rate applies to grinding the main stump only.

Additional charges may apply for:

  • root flares extending beyond the main stump
  • difficult access, including narrow gates, slopes, or obstacles
  • utility locates, which we arrange when required

Removal of stump grindings is an additional charge if you do not want to handle the cleanup yourself.

Removing stump grindings may require extra labour, additional loading and cleanup, a different truck setup, travel time to the dump site, disposal fees, and in some cases, an additional crew member.

Tree Cabling and Bracing Cost

In some situations, cabling or bracing can help support a structurally weak tree, reduce the risk of failure, and preserve the tree rather than removing it too soon.

Cabling and bracing starts at $300 and may increase depending on the amount of cable, hardware, and structural support required.

Pricing is based on:

  • the number of weak unions, split stems, or compromised limbs
  • the amount of cable or bracing hardware required
  • the complexity of the installation

The cost includes both the required hardware and professional installation.

When installed in the right situation, a cabling or bracing system can extend the life of a valuable tree and help avoid unnecessary removal.

Brush Removal Cost

Brush removal starts at $300 and increases based on the following factors:

  • total volume of brush
  • location and access
  • how compacted, tangled, or buried the pile is
  • how long the material has been sitting

Older, rotting brush piles are often more difficult and time-consuming to remove because they are heavier, harder to pull apart, and less efficient to load.

Hedge Trimming Cost

Hedge trimming is estimated based on the length, width, and height of the hedge.

Our minimum charge for hedge trimming is $250.

Taller or wider hedges typically cost more because they require more time, more labour, and in some cases specialized equipment to complete the work safely and properly.

Other factors that may affect hedge trimming cost include:

  • ease of access
  • if it needs to be topped down
  • whether cleanup and removal of clippings is required
  • nearby obstacles such as fences, structures, or utility lines

The best way to price hedge trimming accurately is through a site visit.

Tree Removal Permit Service

If your tree requires a removal permit, we can take care of the permit application process for you.

For one tree on a private urban residential property, our tree removal permit service is a flat fee of $400.

This flat fee includes:

  • preparation of the required report
  • completion and submission of the permit application
  • payment of the applicable City of Ottawa permit application fee for one standard tree permit application where no development is taking place

We handle the permit process from start to finish, so you do not have to deal with the paperwork, submission requirements, or the confusion of navigating City regulations on your own.

This pricing applies to one tree only on a standard private urban residential property. If more than one tree is involved, or if the application is more complex, pricing will change accordingly.

When a Tree Removal Permit May Be Required in Ottawa

On many private urban residential properties in Ottawa, a permit may be required before removing a protected tree. In general, this applies to a distinctive tree, which is defined as a tree measuring 30 cm or more in diameter at breast height, also called DBH, or approximately 11.8 inches.

If your tree meets the size requirement and falls under the City’s tree protection rules, a permit may be required before removal.

Why Quotes Can Vary

A lower quote does not always include the same level of service.

Professional tree service pricing often reflects:

  • proper equipment for the job
  • safe work practices
  • insured operation
  • experienced decision-making on site
  • thorough cleanup
  • legal and safety compliance
  • disposal and hauling costs
  • the ability to handle hazardous or difficult conditions correctly

Our goal is not to be the cheapest option on every job. Our goal is to provide safe, professional work, clear communication, and a clean result.
